HISTORY
In the 1920’s, immensely popular travelling fairs went from city to city entertaining the public. The typical fair had a large central tent surrounded by smaller tents for the side-shows.
One of these smaller side-show tents was typically dedicated to the Hoochie-Koochie girls, who danced on a podium surrounding the central support pole of the tent. The dancers incorporated the pole in their dancing, and the pole dance was born.
In the 1950’s, with the increased acceptance of burlesque, pole dancing moved into bars. Not long after, the art of pole dancing drifted into obscurity until the 1980’s, with the return of the striptease in the United States and Canada.
Between 1990 and 2006, pole dancing once again ventured out of bars, this time venturing into the fitness sector. This phenomenon was seen mostly in the United States, Great Britain, Sweden and western Canada.
2007: Idolem Studio is born, and pole fitness is accessible to all women.
